Homemade pastry dough is quick and easy to make and is prepared with extra virgin olive oil, making it suitable for those following a dairy free or vegan diet.
We use it most often for savory dishes and it can also be used for sweet baked goods. If baking something sweet, add a tablespoon of sugar to the recipe.
The ingredients will yield two large pies. If you don’t need that much dough, reduce the amounts by half or store the extra dough in the refrigerator to be used later in the week.
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Preparation
- In a large bowl, mix together the olive oil, water, vinegar, and salt
- Add the flour
- Hand knead the dough until all of the ingredients are incorporated and the dough no longer sticks to the bowl. Your dough is ready to be rolled out in accordance with the dish you are preparing
- If refrigerating some of the dough, store in a container in the refrigerator and use within 5 days. When refrigerated, some of the oil will separate from the dough. This is normal. Simply knead the oil back into the dough when ready to use
